Scene One
[Title: The Year 2030]
Narrator: Kids, I’m gonna tell you an incredible story. The story of how I met your mother
Son: Are we being punished for something?
Narrator: No
Daughter: Yeah, is this gonna take a while?
Narrator: Yes. (Kids are annoyed) Twenty-five years ago, before I was dad, I had this whole other life.
(Music Plays, Title “How I Met Your Mother” appears)
Narrator: It was way back in 2005. I was twenty-seven just starting to make it as an architect and living in New York with my friend Marshall, my best friend from college. My life was good and then Uncle Marshall went and screwed the whole thing up.
Marshall: (Opens ring) Will you marry me.
Ted: Yes, perfect! And then you’re engaged, you pop the champagne! You drink a toast! You have sex on the kitchen floor… Don’t have sex on our kitchen floor.
Marshall: Got it. Thanks for helping me plan this out, Ted.
Ted: Dude, are you kidding? It’s you and Lily! I’ve been there for all the big moments of you and Lily. The night you met. Your first date… other first things.
Marshall: (laughs) yeah, sorry. We thought you were asleep.
Ted: It’s physics Marshall, if the bottom bunk moves, the top bunk moves too. My god, you’re getting engaged tonight.
Marshall: Yeah, what are you doing tonight?
(Scene Freezes)
Narrator: What was I doing? Your Uncle Marshall was taking the biggest step of his life, and me—I’m calling your Uncle, Barney.
[Cut to Later: Barney’s in the barber shop, Ted’s talking from home]
Barney: (on the phone) hey, so you know how I’ve always had a thing for half-Asian girls? Well, now I’ve got a new favorite: Lebanese girls! Lebanese girls are the new half-Asians.
Ted: Hey, you wanna do something tonight?
Barney: Okay, meet me at the bar in fifteen minutes, and Suit up!

1. I will drink a toast.
축배를 들겠습니다.
*[동물농장]에서 권력층 돼지들이 농부들과 질펀한 술자리를 가지며 외친말입니다.
"건배하다"는 "drink[propose] a toast" , "~와 축배를 들다"는 "give + 목적어 + a toast"로 말하며, "~을 위하여"는 to + 목적어를 씁니다.
ex) I give you a toast: To the prosperity of Animal Farm!
축배를 들겠습니다! 동물농장의 번영을 위하여!!
2. I have a thing for ferry boats.
페리보트를 좋아해서요!(난 페리보트에 대한 하나를 가졌다라는 의미보다는~^^)
~브랜드를 좋아해. ~를 좋아해 할때
생각나는 동사는 like, love정도이지만
이렇게 have a thing for 를 쓰면
~에게 마음이 있다, 끌리다, 좋아하다를 표현할수 있습니다. (특히 어떤 사람에게)
같은 말로 have the hots for역시 상대방에게관심이 있거나 좋아하는 마음이 있을때 쓰는 표현입니다!
사람뿐만 아니라 사물에도 쓰이며 어떤 브랜드나 특정 사물을 좋아할떄 역시 쓰일수 있습니다.
다시 예문을 적용해서 연습해 보자면
My son has a thing for unusual t-shirts .
I have a thing for hockey players.

3. make it as an architect (자기 분야에서) 성공하다
He never really made it as an actor.
그는 배우로서 결코 진정한 성공은 거두지 못했다.

Narrator: 얘들아! 내가 엄청난 이야기를 들려줄게, 아빠가 엄마를 어떻게 만났는지 말이야.
Son: 우리가 뭘 잘못햇어요?
Narrator: 아니
Daughter: 오래걸려요?
Narrator: 그럼, 25년전, 내가 아빠가 되기 전이니까, 아빤 전혀 다른 삶을 살고 있었단다.
Narrator: 2005년으로 거슬러 가면 말야. 아빠가 27살, 막 건축가의 길을 걸을때였지. 대학절친인 친구 마샬과 뉴욕에서 살았고. 생활은 좋았는데 그때 마샬삼촌이 모든걸 망쳐버렸지.
Marshall: 나랑 결혼해 줄래.
Ted: 그래, 그거야! 그리곤 약혼하는거지, 샴페인 터뜨리고 축배를 드는거야! 너 부엌바닥에서 하는데… 부엌바닥에서 하지마!
Marshall: 알았어! 계획짜는거 도와줘서 고마워! 테드.
Ted: 멍충아, 놀리는거냐? 너랑 릴리잖아. 내가 너와 릴리의 중요한 모든 순간에 있었잖아. 둘이 만난 밤, 첫 데이트, 첫 역사 때도.
Marshall: 맞아, 미안. 우리는 너가 잠든 줄 알았어.
Ted: 물리적인 거야. 마샬! 아래침대가 움직이면 위쪽도 같이 움직인다고. 오 이런 세상에! 너 오늘 약혼하려는거지!
Marshall: 응, 오늘밤 넌 뭐 할거야?
Narrator: 내가 뭘 하고 있었냐고? 마샬삼촌이 인생에서 가장 큰 계단을 오르는 동안 나는 - 바니 삼촌한테 전화했지.
Barney: 야, 내가 항상 얼마나 아시아혼혈 여자애들을 좋아했는지 알지? 근데, 지금 새취향이 생겼어. 레바논 여자로. 레바논 여자들은 새로운 아시아 혼혈이야.
Ted: 야, 오늘밤 어때?
Barney: 좋아, 15분후에 바에서 봐, 정장 입고와.
